Call your insurance provider to ask if they will cover 'Out of Network' benefits for mental health. Also verify if your insurance provider offers 'Out of Network' mental health benefits for licensed marriage and family therapists.

Do I have mental health insurance benefits? What is my deductible and has it been met? How many sessions per year does my health insurance cover? What is the coverage amount per therapy session? Is approval required from my primary care physician?

Why don't you accept insurance?

Accepted Answer

Insurance providers operate on a biomedical model, where they can determine coverage based on what they deem medically necessary, limit the number of covered sessions, and require a diagnosis. As your therapist, your journey to recovery and healing will not be limited by timelines, diagnoses, or pathology. I understand the financial cost that is added for private therapy, and I do not take this lightly. I believe in the power of therapy once safety, trust, and security are established, things that may feel compromised when insurance companies are involved and determine the care you deserve instead of us making that decision as a team.

What is your cancellation and no-show policy?

Your well-being and time are important to me. To provide the best care for all my clients, I kindly request at least 48 hours notice for cancellations. Late cancellation with less than 48 hours notice: 50% of fee will be charged. Less than 24 hours notice: 100% of fee will be charged. No-shows (missing a session without communication, or being 15 minutes late without communication) will be charged the full session fee. I understand that emergencies and sudden illness happen, and in these situations my late fee is waived. For other late cancellations, I'm happy to waive the fee if we can find a new time to reschedule within the same week. Consistency is key to progress in therapy. Because of this, if a client accumulates three no-shows, I will discharge them from my care to ensure I can serve those ready to engage consistently.

Can I contact you outside of session?

Therapy is most powerful when it happens within the consistent, confidential space of our sessions. To honor that container, I limit communication outside of our scheduled time. Please use email or text primarily for scheduling or brief logistics, and avoid calling, texting, or emailing about therapeutic content, as these channels are not secure for deep discussion. I will do my best to respond to all messages within 24 hours during my regular business hours, though I cannot guarantee an immediate response since I am often in session. If you are experiencing an emergency and need immediate support, please do not wait for me to respond: call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, or contact a local peer respite or crisis center.

How do telehealth sessions work?

I use a simple, secure, and HIPAA-compliant video platform through SimplePractice. You'll receive a unique link to your session via email before our appointment. To get the most out of our time, I ask that you join from a private, quiet, and distraction-free space where you feel comfortable speaking openly. Using headphones can also help with audio quality and privacy. Please ensure you have a reliable internet connection for our session.

How does our work together end?

Therapy typically concludes when we mutually agree that you have met your goals. I also deeply respect your autonomy and will support you if you decide to end therapy for any reason. If you choose to stop, I recommend that we schedule one final session to properly wrap up our work, review your progress, discuss a plan for the future, and say a meaningful goodbye. If I reach out to schedule a future session and do not hear from you within 30 days, I will need to formally close your file to ensure I can serve others on my waitlist.
